National Student Employment Week
Edge Hill is encouraging businesses across the region to take advantage of the wealth of student experience by employing them part-time or during the holidays.
National Student Employment Week, which runs from 17 ?21 October, aims to highlight the fact that students are a valuable resource for employers, with events taking place at universities and colleges throughout the UK.
Edge Hill is hosting a workshop for all students that will offer skills and tactics needed for securing employment, as well as a series of presentations to highlight the existing employment opportunities available.
Louise Westhead is Work Experience and Employment Coordinator at Edge Hill: "More and more students are balancing study commitments with part time work in order to finance their studies. Up to 90% of students undertake some form of work experience during the academic year and around 1.6 million have direct access to a university job shop."
Edge Hill?s Job Club is a free recruitment service for students:
"The Job Club offers local employers access to a workforce that has a wide and up to date range of skills," added Louise. "It also acts as an information exchange for employers seeking suitable staff, and for students searching for part time work."
Edge Hill already works closely with employers including the Co-op bank, Asda, Debenhams and CSL furniture.
"It is really important for students to undertake some form of work experience, so that they graduate with the skills that employers are seeking," said Louise. "Students have a lot to offer, including skills developed as undergraduates and the ability to work flexibly."
