Edge Hill gets animated

Edge Hill this week launches one of the first animated TV advertisements to promote a higher education institution.

The first broadcast is set for this Thursday(11th August) on Channel 4, E4 and Granada, and will continue throughout the summer aimed at young people thinking about making choices for the year ahead.

The commercial, the brain child of education marketing specialists Euro RSCG Riley, was produced by Manchester based animators Kilogramme- creators of Cosgrove Hall productions such as Postman Pat and Engie Benji.

Viewers follow the main character, Jez, through the story of his search for a place to study for a degree, showcasing the Ormskirk campus, courses and the environment. The end of the commercial cuts from computer generated imagery to live action, illustrating that the animation just shown, is in fact reality.

Wendy DeVille, Marketing Manager at Edge Hill commented: "Edge Hill has a lot to offer potential degree students. We are proud to be an innovative provider of quality higher education and the use of animation in the TV ad seemed to be the perfect way to illustrate this.

"TV has always been a very successful medium for us, generating large numbers of responses each year, and we feel confident that this campaign will go even further, not only in securing applicants but raising awareness of Edge Hill across the North West."

Charlotte Gray, Group Account Director at Euro RSCG Riley, added:

"This campaign is something of a departure for both Edge Hill and the education sector; the challenge was not only to make the institution stand out against its competitors but produce an advert that challenges expectations and really gets people talking."
