Price is Right for Fastrack

Former footballer Greg Price is forging a new career thanks to Edge Hill's Fastrack scheme.

The 28-year-old father-of-two, who played professionally for Scunthorpe United and semi-professionally for Prescot Cables and Burscough amongst others, had his career cut short after being attacked whilst working on a bus shelter in Speke.

The unprovoked assault, which happened two years ago, left Greg with permanent brain damage and a loss of hearing in one ear.

"I don?t remember a thing about the incident," said Greg, who lives in Norris Green. "I had to quit football and give up work as a result which left me with few options career-wise.

"I then heard of Edge Hill?s Fastrack scheme through a friend of a friend and I?ve now found a new lease of life."

Fastrack, which is validated by the Open College Network Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire, involves six weeks of intense study at Edge Hill?s Ormskirk Campus in a chosen discipline.

After completing the course, students can then go on to study for a full honours degree at Edge Hill.

"I?m really looking forward to studying for a degree in Business and Management," added Greg, who was one of 94 mature students to enrol on Edge Hill?s Fastrack scheme this year. "I?ve already picked up lots of new skills and it's been great learning how to be academic all over again.

"Hopefully, in three years time I?ll have firmly put things behind me by establishing a new career in some form of marketing management."

Bill Johnson, Edge Hill?s Widening Participation and Access Co-ordinator, said: "The vast majority of this year?s Fastrack students will go on to study for degrees in a range of disciplines and Greg?s story is a shining example of achieving over adversity. He has been a very popular member of the Fastrack group and I?m sure he?ll make many more friends over the next three years at Edge Hill."
