Flying Start for Edge Hill Road Race
A near 100-strong field turned out in force to compete in the region?s newest mid-distance event ? the Edge Hill 5k Road Race.
Athletes of all ages and standards, including a number of Edge Hill staff, descended upon the institution?s Ormskirk campus for the inaugural race which was won by Blackburn Harrier Ben Fish (pictured) in a time of 15mins 05secs, with Liverpool Harrier Michelle Whalley the first lady past the post (17:03).
The race weaved around the college, starting and finishing at the Sporting Edge facility, and organiser and performing arts lecturer Phil Christopher said: "This was a highly successful first Edge Hill 5k Road Race with fast times on a warm pleasant evening. Given the quality of the campus and facilities at Edge Hill the race seems set to become a popular part of the midweek racing calendar."
A host of prizes went to the top men, ladies, teams, junior and veteran runners, including state-of-the-art running shoes, running watches, shorts, hats, radios and bags.
