Birchwood High means business

Higher education is just 'the business? according to year ten pupils at a Warrington school.

Twenty-seven youngsters from Birchwood Community High School took part in a Business Taster programme at Edge Hill, hosted by its respected Business, Management and Leisure department and run in conjunction of Aimhigher Cheshire & Warrington.

Along with a campus tour and various workshops, pupils experienced a 'slice? of the fast-food industry as they competed in groups as pizza retailers with the aim of making as much profit as they could.

Siobhan Glynn, enterprise co-ordinator for Birchwood High, said: "Events such as these are brilliant as they fully immerse pupils of mixed abilities in a higher education environment.

"The facilities are excellent at Edge Hill and the interactive sessions proved to be so enjoyable that I?m sure a number of the students will now be thinking that higher education is definitely for them."

Neil Barlow, Edge Hill?s widening participation officer, said: "As regional co-ordinator for Aimhigher, Edge Hill is always looking for ways to engage young people and show them that higher education is relevant to them. The pupils from Birchwood seemed to enjoy the day and hopefully their Edge Hill experience will have made a big impression on them."
