Faculty of Education goes from strength to strength
Edge Hill has received a substantial boost that will further strengthen its renowned Faculty of Education.
The Teacher Training Agency (TTA) has awarded the Faculty of Education £6.5million over three years for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) ? the largest sum of its kind in the sector.
Edge Hill?s range of CPD courses, which are managed by a team of specialist tutors, are designed for professionals involved in education as well as those who have an interest in the theory and practice of the field.
Robert Smedley, Edge Hill?s Dean of the Faculty of Education, said: "Edge Hill already has an enviable reputation in terms of Teacher Education programmes and this funding now positions us as the most significant provider of Postgraduate Continuing Professional Development programmes in the country.
"This is fantastic news for both the institution and, most importantly, teachers who, as our students, will reap the benefits of this significant investment."
The money will be used to fund postgraduate programmes for teachers focussing on their professional development needs with 3,400 places provided in the first year alone.
"The TTA?s acceptance of our strong bid for funding recognises the excellent work Edge Hill has put in over the years to meet targets and develop unique partnerships with Local Education Authorities and schools and focus on the impact of professional development programmes on standards in the classroom," added Mr Smedley. "We are fully committed to repaying this faith in our services by further developing the already high standards we attain in professional development for teachers."
