An 'ACE? Day for Students
Year Ten pupils at St Julie?s Catholic High School in Woolton have sampled a taste of Higher Education courtesy of Edge Hill.
Around 30 youngsters paid a visit to the Ormskirk campus to take part in an Aimhigher ACE (Aiming for College Education) day which included a series of workshops aimed at introducing new study skills.
Angela Maude, Aimhigher co-ordinator for St Julie?s, said: "ACE days at Edge Hill are brilliant as they fully immerse 16 and 17-year-olds in a higher education environment.
"The facilities are excellent and they certainly open the students? minds to the possibility of continuing their studies. Many don?t realise what higher education entails but, having visited Edge Hill, they are well-positioned to make a more informed decision on where their future lies."
During the day, the students devised a marketing campaign for Edge Hill based on a promotional DVD and were introduced to the world of web design.
Neil Barlow, Edge Hill?s widening participation officer, said: "As regional co-ordinator for Aimhigher, Edge Hill is always looking for ways to engage young people and show them that higher education is relevant to them. The pupils from St Julie?s seemed to enjoy the day and hopefully their Edge Hill experience will have made a big impression on them."
