ROYAL OPENING FOR NEW FACULTY OF EDUCATION BUILDING
Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra, the Hon Lady Ogilvy, KG, GCVO, opened Edge Hill?s £9m development, The Faculty of Education building, at the Ormskirk Campus.
Princess Alexandra is Chancellor of Lancaster University, which accredits Edge Hill degrees. This was the Princess? first visit to Edge Hill, although she has presented degrees and diplomas to its students for the last 40 years, at Graduation ceremonies at Lancaster University.
Chief Executive Dr John Cater was especially pleased to welcome Her Royal Highness, in this her last year as Chancellor of Lancaster University, to officially open Edge Hill?s latest development, part of its continuing expansion of the Ormskirk Campus.
As the largest national provider of Initial Teacher Training for secondary education and the third largest provider overall, Edge Hill continues to lead the way in education training. This latest development builds upon Edge Hill?s reputation as a first-rate, first choice provider of teacher education for almost 120 years.
Dr John Cater: “In the past decade we have invested almost £60m into our academic infrastructure. The quality of accommodation in the new Faculty of Education building reflects our fundamental aim to provide the very best for our trainees, students and teachers.”
The £9m development houses 24 teaching rooms equipped with the latest technology to support teaching and learning, a lecture theatre for over 300, office accommodation for over 90 staff and a restaurant facility with a lakeside view. Cutting edge ICT equipment and a model school classroom will enhance the experience of trainee teachers.
