HEALTH PROFESSIONALS OPEN DAY
9th September 2004
HEALTH PROFESSIONAL?S OPEN DAY
An Open Day to promote Edge Hill College of Higher Education?s professional health qualification, the Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) Diploma, will take place at Wythenshawe Hospital on Thursday 16th September, between 4pm and 7pm.
The three-year full-time Diploma in Higher Education will involve clinical practice, in addition to lectures and tutorials held at St Thomas?s Hospital in Stockport.
Jean Hinton, senior lecturer said: "This health qualification focuses on the care of patients undergoing all aspects of anaesthesia, surgery and recovery. Operating Department Practitioners work in teams with nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists and support staff. They also enjoy excellent employment opportunities, particularly as theatre provision is continually expanding to incorporate new roles."
As a major training provider for the health and allied professionals, Edge Hill works closely with the NHS to train nurses, midwives and operating department practitioners throughout the region. Wythenshawe Hospital is one of several participating hospitals in the Greater Manchester and East Cheshire catchment areas, where ODP students will carry out their clinical placements.
Entry requirements for the Diploma are 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above, or equivalent. Bursaries are also available.
The recruitment event is open to anyone with an interest in undertaking the Diploma starting in April and September 2005. For further information about the Operating Department Practitioner Diploma and Open Day, please contact Teresa Hardcastle on 0161 355 5534 or e mail hardcast@edgehill.ac.uk
