TRANSATLANTIC LINKS

20th July 2004

EDGE HILL FORGES TRANSATLANTIC LINKS Plans are underway to develop a staff exchange scheme between Edge Hill College of Higher Education and City University New York.

Ann Helm, Director of International Service at the City University visited Edge Hill?s Ormskirk Campus to discuss the scheme, which would involve lecturers and support staff spending two weeks working with their overseas counterparts.

The City University's College of Staten Island Campus shares many similarities with Edge Hill, with a large teacher education programme, as well as a range of bachelor?s programmes in the liberal arts, social sciences and business studies.

Mike Hughes, English lecturer and American student liaison tutor at Edge Hill is leading the staff exchange programme, following a visit to the College of Staten Island, where he taught and took part in a number of classes in English and Education.

Mike said: "Staff at the College of Staten Island were keen to take part in an exchange scheme. I collected a range of CVs from staff in the departments of Education and English. Perhaps one of the most original aspects of this new exchange scheme is that it could include support staff, as well as academics. We could really benefit, not only from an exchange of scholars, but also service and administrative staff, through contact with a parallel but essentially different system."
