EXAM RESULTS JOY
Shrieks of joy echoed through Edge Hill?s Hale Hall when students picked up their exam results from the College of Higher Education?s Ormskirk Campus yesterday.
A record number of people achieved degrees, PGCEs (Professional Graduate Certificates in Education) and Foundation Degrees, 1,630 compared with 1,540 last year. This year also saw an increase in those achieving first class honours degrees, with 53 people picking up the coveted first, compared with 35 last year, an increase of 51%.
Edge Hill?s first cohort of Foundation Degree students received their results, with 73 passing the Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning Support, one of the first courses of its kind in the country.
Thirty-four students achieved journalism degrees, also the first cohort to complete the programme at Edge Hill. The BA in Journalism is industry accredited by the NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists), which means that students will graduate with a professional qualification respected by employers.
John Cater, Chief Executive of Edge Hill is delighted with this year?s results. He said:
"Today's students usually combine studying with part-time work and, in many cases, family responsibilities. Given this, it is a particular testimony to the commitment of this year's graduands and their tutors that a record number of good degrees have been awarded. Edge Hill's graduates have an excellent record in the job market, and we offer this year's cohort our very best wishes for their future careers."
Edge Hill students are to graduate next week on Friday 16th July at Lancaster University. ENDS EDITOR?S NOTES: For further press information please contact: Roisin Rowley-Smith PR Manager Tel: 01695 584509 Fax: 01695 584355 E mail: rowlesr@edgehill.ac.uk or pressoffice@edgehill.ac.uk
