IN CONVERSATION WITH JIMMY McGOVERN

TV and film scriptwriter Jimmy McGovern is to appear at Edge Hill?s Rose Theatre on Thursday 1st July, 7.45pm, as part of an international conference, Imaging Social Movements.

The award winning Liverpool scriptwriter began his writing career on Brookside, and went on to produce a host of film and TV hits including Cracker, Priest, Hillsborough and Sunday, about the 'Bloody Sunday? shootings in Derry in 1972.

In Conversation with Jimmy McGovern is an illustrated discussion of his work, hosted by Edge Hill academic Dr Mark McGovern.

"Jimmy McGovern has agreed to appear as part of Edge Hill?s Social and Cultural Movement?s Group conference that will be exploring the theme of the construction of images and how social movements are represented in the media. Jimmy?s work has never shied away from controversy. His dramatisation of the Hillsborough disaster and the powerful docu-drama Sunday used the power of the image to pursue the truth, and stimulate debate."

The event is open to the public and costs £3 payable on the door. For further information about the conference contact Mark McGovern on e mail: mcgoverm@edgehill.ac.uk or tel: 01695 584430. ENDS EDITOR?S NOTES: The Social and Cultural Movements Group is a cross-departmental, multi-disciplinary research group based at Edge Hill that draws on the energies of activists and academics from around the globe. They study social movements past and present, the theories developed to understand social movements and ideas that have animated them.
