ONLINE BOOK DEAL
Edge Hill College of Higher Education has negotiated a massive book deal, as part of the North West Academic Libraries(NoWal) consortium, to secure access to around 12 000 electronic books.
The deal means that staff and students can now tap into Europe?s largest collection of books online, from college, work, or at home, with no fines and 24 hour access.
Sue Roberts is Learning Services Manager at Edge Hill and she is delighted to join with other North-West universities to secure the institution?s largest electronic book deal.
"We are seeing an increase in the numbers of students opting for distance learning programmes or blended learning, which means that they combine time on campus with learning using web technology. Our new electronic book resource is a boon to those who don?t have ready access to campus library facilities."
Students and staff can access the electronic books by logging on to their PC, entering a password and performing a simple search for books by title, author or keyword.
Sue Roberts: "This new service is just one of a range of initiatives that the Learning Services department is involved in, such as extending learning resource centre opening times and piloting 24 hour access to PCs. We?re continually exploring new ways to support students in their studies to keep in line with the rapidly changing demands in learning." ends
