EDGE HILL NOMINATED FOR THE NEW STATESMAN NEW MEDIA AWARDS 2004

The New Statesman, Britain?s leading political magazine has accepted the nomination of Edge Hill College of Higher Education in their New Media Awards in the category of Secondary Education.

Edge Hill?s Psyonline web site is a learning resource for those taking the AQA AS level Psychology. Developed by a team of researchers at Edge Hill, working in collaboration with local sixth form schools and colleges, the site displays key features to include sample answers to past exam questions, online revision tests, links to online radio programmes, as well as printable work sheets.

Dr Mike Davis, Senior Lecturer in Education Studies at Edge Hill thinks that the site fits the criteria for winning a New Statesman New Media Award, which has since 1999 promoted projects that embrace new technology, fresh thinking and creative management in the UK.

The key themes of this year?s awards are innovation and efficiency. They intend to award those who have really achieved something good for society.

"We hear a great deal about how the internet and such like will improve our lives," said Peter Wilby, editor of the New Statesman. "This project aims to look at how far the digital revolution has really brought us."

Dr Mike Davis said: "The Psyonline project has been a very successful collaborative effort and we look forward to developing the idea in support of other A level subjects." ENDS

The website is the only one of its kind that relates directly to the AQA syllabus and is sponsored by the DfES.

This is the sixth year that the New Statesman has conducted the New Media Awards.

Anyone with an eligible example of ICT in public life is welcome to nominate it for review. Nominations are accepted until 31 May 2004. Highest achieving nominations will be awarded a prize at an awards ceremony in Central London in July.
