Library Services take TOP grade
Edge Hill?s Library and Information Resource Centre (LIRC) based at its Aintree Campus was awarded the highest possible grade following a recent NHS library accreditation visit.
The NHS North West Health Care Libraries Unit awarded a stage three standard, representing significant evidence of excellence and innovation.
The library serves staff from partner NHS Trusts in the region as well as students based at Edge Hill?s Aintree Campus, which makes it a unique multidisciplinary resource, not only for those based on site, but also a gateway for accessing electronic resources via the internet.
Sue Roberts is Head of Learning Services at Edge Hill. She said: "We are delighted that the NHS Health Care Libraries Unit has officially recognised that our quality standards are among the best in the region. I am very proud of the team that works hard to ensure that our richly resourced multidisciplinary library and information service is the best it can be."
The LIRC offers physical and virtual resources that cover all aspects of medicine from nursing, science research and allied health to information for NHS management.
The report based on the accreditation visit praised the active role that the service plays in the life of both University Hospital Aintree and Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery NHS Trust:
"Because Edge Hill?s Learning Services manages and leads the LIRC service, the blend of NHS and higher education requirements promotes partnership working of the highest quality."
The report also praised staff:
"There is an excellent mix of skills among the staff, who operate as a very effective and responsive team." ENDS EDITOR?S NOTES: For further information please contact: Roisin Rowley-Smith PR Manager Tel: 01695 584509 Fax: 01695 584355 E mail: rowlesr@edgehill.ac.uk or pressoffice@edgehill.ac.uk
