DRIVE TOWARDS DIVERSITY IN TEACHING
Edge Hill College of Higher Education and St Martin?s College are collaborating on an event to promote careers in education aimed at members of minority ethnic groups in the North West.
Your Career in Education is to be held at Blackburn Central Library on Monday April 19th from 12 noon until 7.30pm. Lecturers and support staff from Edge Hill and St Martin?s College as well as representatives from Blackburn and Darwen Local Education Authority (LEA) will be on hand to offer advice and guidance on a range of careers in education. Kevin Mattinson is Head of Secondary Education at Edge Hill. He said: "There is a national shortage of teachers from ethnic minority backgrounds and we are keen to address the fact that these groups are under represented in the profession. We need to have teachers from all cultural groups to motivate future generations and to provide positive role models for all. We are making every effort to encourage those from ethnic minority communities to find out more about the rewards that the teaching profession can offer."
Advice will be available on all aspects of training for careers in education, from classroom and teaching assistants through to primary and secondary teacher training. Visitors can find out more about how to take their first steps towards a career in education and discuss their individual training options with professional experts on hand to advise.
