COMPOSE YOURSELF FOR A CONCERT WITH A TWIST
Edge Hill?s Hale Hall is the venue for a music concert with a playful twist when the North West COMA (Contemporary Music Making for Amateurs) ensemble pays a visit to the Ormskirk Campus on Saturday 24th April, 3-4pm.
The COMA ensemble will be performing original contemporary classical music based on the theme of playing games for an audience made up of members of the National Childbirth Trust, the charity that commissioned the concert, amongst others.
Anna Claydon is the COMA regional co-ordinator as well as Lecturer in Film Studies at Edge Hill. She is looking forward to the performance, where the ensemble aims to make contemporary music more accessible:
"COMA is quite unique in that it's a composing ensemble with an eclectic mix of musicians. The youngest is about 17 and the oldest member is in his seventies. We expect to have about 12-14 musicians playing original work and we will be talking through the pieces and the instruments to encourage familiarity with our music and composition. Contemporary classical music is often accused of elitism and we aim to dispel that myth by performing a range of very accessible fun pieces from fairgrounds to juggling, nursery rhymes and chess games."
The concert is free and is open to anyone who would like to attend. Voluntary donations to the National Childbirth Trust, Childline and COMA will be collected at the concert. For further information please call Anna Claydon on 01744 820954.
