TIM BOSWELL MP RETURNS TO EDGE HILL
Tim Boswell, Conservative MP for Daventry returned to Edge Hill eleven years after visiting the College of Higher Education where he laid the foundation stone for the then newly completed Learning Resource Centre.
The visit by the former Minster for Higher Education, now Shadow Minster responsible for broadcasting was to speak to final year media and journalism undergraduates about the response to the latest report commissioned by the Conservative Party on the future of the BBC called Beyond the Charter.
Mr Boswell was keen to stress that the report, that criticises the system of funding through licence fee and looks at the future of public service broadcasting, is currently being considered by the Conservative Party and that it doesn?t provide all the answers to the problems of Charter renewal.
During his visit Mr Boswell took part in a tour of the media and communication facilities at Edge Hill?s Ormskirk Campus and was interviewed by second year Journalism undergraduate Gregg Roughley.
Gregg said: "I interviewed Tim Boswell about the BBC and the future regulation of the broadcast industry for material for a newsday story that forms part of our second year assessment. I was especially pleased to find that he thought the interview was conducted as well as, if not better than many professional journalists that he has met."
Tony Turjansky, Programme Leader (Journalism) was delighted to welcome the Minister to Edge Hill. He said: "I am always pleased to welcome distinguished guests and experts in their field who are willing to share their knowledge with our students."
