RETURN TO TEACHING AT EDGE HILL

Edge Hill College of Higher Education in partnership with Lancashire Local Education Authority (LEA) is offering specialised refresher courses for qualified primary and secondary teachers who have not taught for the last seven years. The Return to Teaching courses are free TTA funded 13 week programmes which offer a £150 a week bursary, as well as childcare costs of up £150.

The courses are to be held at Edge Hill?s Woodlands Campus at Chorley in Lancashire from 19th April until 16th July. Delivery is flexible, taking into account individual needs and the courses will provide updates on all recent developments within the education sector. Content includes teaching placements in two secondary or primary schools with support offered by school-based mentors.

Sue Ainslie is Head of Continuing Professional Development at Edge Hill, she said: "We have lots of experience of providing courses for teachers who want to return to their profession after some years away from the classroom. These programmes are an ideal way to ease teachers back in to work. The pace of change within the education sector is very rapid and some former teachers can be put off returning because of it. These courses include a thorough update on all recent developments within education as well as providing participants with support to enable them to meet their individual needs. The school experience will give them the opportunity to return to the classroom with the support of mentors and tutors, so that they can develop renewed confidence and enthusiasm. There will also be input from the Lancashire LEA recruitment and retention service and the Edge Hill careers service to help participants find employment."
