E LEARNING IS TOPS AT EDGE HILL

A team from Edge Hill has been recognised as one of the best in the field of e learning.

The team, part of Edge Hill?s Learning Services department, has been awarded the runner up place in the E-Tutor of the Year competition, for the online information skills tutorial ExpertEase. The tutorial teaches students and staff how to search for information and journals online.

Sponsored by the Learning and Teaching Support Network and the Times Higher Education Supplement the competition attracted 20 entries in its bid to celebrate innovative good practice and achievement in the field of e learning.

Lindsey Martin, Academic Liaison Coordinator at Edge Hill and team leader in development of the online tutorial entered ExpertEase into the competition, despite fearing opposition from some of the largest universities in England.

Lindsey said: "My colleagues Leo Appleton and Mark Roche persuaded me to enter ExpertEase. We are all very proud to have created an innovative, interactive and engaging tutorial that students enjoy exploring, but we weren?t sure how we?d measure up against other universities that entered. We were absolutely thrilled to hear that we?d been awarded the runner up position."

Awards went to those who could demonstrate innovative practice by meeting students? needs and enhancing the learning environment, together with high levels of interactivity.

Awards will be presented at a national conference in Edinburgh this April where the Edge Hill team will pick up their prize of £250 in book tokens. The ExpertEase tutorial is still a work in progress with plans to customise the tutorial for a range of subjects including education and business.
