EDGE HILL STUDENTS LEARN AND PROSPER

Edge Hill is to open its doors to prospective student employers as part of activities arranged for National Student Employment Week, 16-20 February.

The annual event is organised by NASES (National Association of Student Employment Services) and is designed to help bring students and employers together by way of events and promotions in universities and colleges across the UK.

Around one-half of students in the UK are doing some sort of paid employment to fund their studies, but the benefits of paid work extend beyond the financial.

Louise Westhead is Work Experience and Employment Co-ordinator at Edge Hill, she said: "We are keen to promote a range of employment opportunities for students during summer holiday periods as well as part time job opportunities throughout the academic year. However we don?t recommend that students work more than 16 hours a week and we try to link course subjects to related job opportunities. Work and particularly travel experience is invaluable for students, as it provides the opportunity for them to sample life overseas and experience cultural diversity."

Representatives from Camp Counselors USA, BUNAC, Camp Leaders in America and Kings Sports Campus will be visiting Edge Hill to present work opportunities available for students at home, in Europe and further a field.

Louise Westhead: "More and more employers are looking for graduates with work experience. Part time employment for students provides that experience, as well as many transferable skills such as team building, confidence boosting, increased self esteem and communication skills."
