NEW FASTRACK PROGRAMMES AT EDGE HILL
Edge Hill?s Fastrack course, designed for mature students who wish to prepare for higher education, is to be expanded for 2004.
Successful completion of the six- week intensive course, to be held in June/July this year, at the Ormskirk Campus, leads to full or part time degree opportunities at Edge Hill. For Fastrack 2004 two new routes into teaching have been added to the range of subjects already available.
Those who lack some of the qualifications usually required for degree level study may now take up the Fastrack course to gain entry on to particular courses.
New Fastrack courses in Information and Communication Technology for secondary teaching, and for teaching English at Key Stage 2/3 have been added to the established Key Stage 2/3 in Information and Communication Technology.
Other subjects, aside from teaching, range from Biological Sciences to Business Management, Social Sciences to Sports Studies, plus many, many more.
Course Leader Bill Johnson is pleased with the success of seven years of Fastrack courses at Edge Hill. He said: "Last year we introduced the first Fastrack route into teaching. The Key Stage 2/3 in ICT proved so popular that we have developed two more new routes for prospective teachers.
The Fastrack course is ideal for those aged 21 and over, who are enthusiastic and motivated and ready to demonstrate that they are genuinely committed to the academic and organisational demands of learning."
The course is free and involves training in a range of transferable study skills including essay writing, time management and presentation skills. Teaching is delivered in the form of lectures, tutorials and practical sessions, by a team of experienced and supportive tutors.
Bill Johnson: "We are particularly keen to recruit members of black and minority ethnic communities as well as those with disabilities, as these groups are currently under represented in UK higher education."
