RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management tool that allows you to create a database of references. References can be added manually or imported from electronic journal collections and Google Scholar. For more information take a look at the RefWorks Guide.

Science Direct is a resource that offers full text Journal articles for subjects, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and also Humanities.
Wiley Online Library Journals
Wiley online Library is a multidisciplinary resource that covers the full spectrum of science, medicine, technology, business, social sciences, and the humanities.
Web of Science - Science Citation Index
Science Citation Index is a resource that indexes journals from all science disciplines, including mathematics, computing, physics and astronomy, chemistry, earth sciences, biological sciences and medicine. It does not contain full text.
Specialist Sources
Digimap
Digimap provides Ordnance Survey digital map data and high quality cartographic products direct to the desktop. This resource allows UK Higher Education students to view and print maps of any location in Great Britain at a series of predefined scales.
Digimap Historic
Historic Digimap provides access to view and print historic maps. This resource combines Contemporary and historic search tools allowing a search for contemporary postcodes or historic parish and county names.
Geology Digimap
Geology Digimap provides access to view and print geological maps. The maps you view can be downloaded to your computer for use in a Geographic Information System (GIS) or image processing software.
Land Map
The Landmap Service provides UK academia with a high quality spatial data download service which is enhanced and supported by a range of learning materials.
Marine Digimap
Marine Digimap provides access to view and print Charted Raster. This resource allows you to search for and download marine maps or Hydrospatial data for your area of interest.
Wider Research
Academic Search Premier
Academic Search Premier is a large multidisciplinary database offering a wide range of full text peer reviewed journal articles, indexes and abstracts. This scholarly resource provides information in nearly every area of academic study including: computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies, and many more.
Springer Journals
Springer Journals are accessed through the resource SpringerLink which is an integrated full-text multidisciplinary database for journals and books published by Springer. This resource is of particular use to Business and Social Science related disciplines.
Swetswise Journals
Swetswise Journals are a large collection of multidisciplinary Journals from a variety of publishers. This resource is useful for researchers from a number of disciplines including Business, Sport, Social & Physiological Sciences and Natural, Geographical & Applied Sciences.
Taylor and Francis Journals
Taylor & Francis Journals are a collection of multidisciplinary journals covering subjects from Arts, Humanities, Computer Sciences, Social Sciences, Geography, Sports and many more.
Taylor and Francis Geography Archive
Taylor & Francis Geography Archive is a small collection of journals with content specifically related to Geography, Planning, Urban and Environment.
ACS Legacy Archive
This is a database of full text, peer reviewed journals published by the American Chemical Society. The collection of chemical science journals particular relate to subject areas of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical, Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry.
Biosis Citation Index
The index provides access to journals relating to life sciences and biomedical research covering pre-clinical and experimental research, methods and instrumentation and animal studies. The database does not provide full text access to the journal articles.
Go-Geo
This tool is designed to help you find details about geo-spatial datasets and related resources within Great Britain tertiary education and beyond.
GreenFILE
GreenFILE offers information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. It includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database is an indexing and abstract database and therefore does not provide access to full text articles.
HighWire Press
This a collection with free full text journals which are generally available 1 year after print in either HTML or PDF format. This database is particularly good for subjects in Biological Sciences, Medical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences.
Meet the Learning Services Natural, Geographical and Applied Sciences Team
Our aim, in collaboration with academic colleagues, is to support students studying Natural, Geographical and Applied Sciences.
We are based in the top floor office of the University Library at Ormskirk.
We provide inductions, information literacy workshops, and 1-to-1 support. We help you to get the most from the resources and services we provide. We work in partnership with academic colleagues to develop group sessions to help you maximise the resources available to support your studies.
