We provide a wide range of electronic resources to support your research and studies. They are available 24/7 and this information will guide you to appropriate resources.
To help you get started and access the most relevant information for your research you will find:

RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management tool that allows you to create a database of references. References can be added manually or imported from electronic journal collections and Google Scholar. For more information take a look at the RefWorks Guide.
Key Collections
LexisNexis
Lexisnexis is a full-text database containing case law and legislation from the UK, EU, US and some other jurisdictions. Also contains a wide range of local and national UK newspapers. Lexis has a very wide range of UK law reports, and a collection of full text law journals. It also has a large number of full text US Law Reviews
Westlaw
Westlaw is a very large database of legal materials from the United Kingdom, European Union, United States and other common law jurisdictions. It contains full-text case law and legislation, full-text journal articles from a limited number of UK law journals, plus some international materials. Multiple UK and EU databases can be searched from the home page or individual databases selected from the content links.
The English Reports
The English Reports (full reprint) was issued in 178 volumes. The reprint edition contains over 100,000 cases. Our online version delivers exact page-images of the original bound reprint edition. In addition it is possible to browse by volumes, Indexes and by the Book of Charts.
HeinOnline's Index to Legal Periodicals
HeinOnline's Index to Legal Periodicals includes mainly US publications although some international journals are covered - use LexisNexis or Westlaw for UK journals. We do not subscribe to articles within this database - this index should just be used to locate journal citations. If you find an interesting article, search for the Journal title on the Library Catalogue to see if we have a printed or electronic copy available elsewhere.
Social Sciences Citation Index
Social Science Citation Index is a resources that indexes journals covering all social science disciplines including anthropology, business and management, economics and finance, education, geography, government and politics, law, psychology, sociology, and social policy.
Specialist Resources
Chitty on Contract
Chitty on Contract covers contracts for every commercial situation including consumer contracts. It offers t interpretation of the legal position, analysis of all the relevant legislation and gives commentary on the relevant case law.
Family Law Reports
Family Law Reports contains verbatim case reports of every important Family Division, Court of Appeal, House of Lords and European courts case, and also includes practice directions, covering the whole range of family law, public and private child law. Each case report includes a concise headnote which provides a summary of the case, the issues involved and the points of law raised.
International Law in Domestic Courts
International Law in Domestic Courts covers international law as applied in the domestic courts of around 70 jurisdictions. The geographical scope is intended to be as broad as possible; ILDC currently reports on countries from every continent in the world. Relevant cases from 2000 to the present for each jurisdiction are included but occasionally ILDC reports on much earlier cases if they are very important for the development of international law jurisprudence in a particular jurisdiction.
XpertHR
XpertHR offers more than 24,000 articles, along with an employment law reference manual. It also includes material from Lexis Nexis and Butterworth’s. Journals covered include: IRS Employment Trends, Industrial Relations, Legal Information Bulletin and Pay and Benefit Bulletin. It will be of use to students studying employment law.

Academic Search Premier is a large multidisciplinary database offering a wide range of full text peer reviewed journal articles, indexes and abstracts. This scholarly resource provides information in nearly every area of academic study including: social sciences, humanities, criminology, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies, and many more.
Science Direct Journals
Science Direct is a resource that offers full text Journal articles for subjects, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and also Humanities.
Taylor and Francis Journals
Taylor & Francis Journals are a collection of multidisciplinary journals covering subjects from Arts, Humanities, Computer Sciences, Social Sciences, Geography, Sports and many more.

Our aim, in collaboration with academic colleagues, is to support students studying Law and Criminology.
We are based in the top floor office of the LINC building at Ormskirk.
We provide inductions, information literacy workshops, and 1-to-1 support. We help you to get the most from the resources and services we provide. We work in partnership with academic colleagues to develop group sessions to help you maximise the resources available to support your studies.
