We provide a wide range of electronic resources to support your research and studies.  They are available 24/7 and this information will guide you to appropriate resources.
To help you get started and access the most relevant information for your research you will find:

RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management tool that allows you to create a database of references. References can be added manually or imported from electronic journal collections and Google Scholar. For more information take a look at the RefWorks Guide.

PsycArticles

PsycARTICLES is a resource from the American Psychological Association. It is a definitive source of full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology.

PsycInfo

The PsycINFO database contains abstracts of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations. The resource covers behavioural science, mental health, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, technology, linguistics, anthropology, business, law and others.

Pier Professional

Pier Professional publishes journals for academics, practitioners and professionals working in health and social care. Specialist areas include learning disability, mental health, older people, adult protection, children's services, housing, leadership, substance use, community safety and forensic practice.

Social Sciences Citation Index

Social Science Citation Index is a resources that indexes journals covering all social science disciplines including anthropology, business and management, economics and finance, education, geography, government and politics, law, psychology, sociology, and social policy.

International Bibliography of the Social Sciences

Contains bibliographic references from 2,600 selected social science journals. The data, which goes back to 1951, is updated weekly. IBSS focuses mainly on the four core social science disciplines - anthropology, economics, politics and sociology - but it also covers a range of interdisciplinary subjects, such as development studies, human geography and environment and gender studies. 7,000 books are included each year. Abstracts are provided for half of all current journal articles and full text availability is continually increasing.

Blackwell Encyclopaedia of Sociology is an online reference tool providing definitions and explanations of Sociological key concepts. This resource will also benefit students studying Criminology and Health related courses.

Child Link

Childlink is the largest online information service on Children and families in the UK and Ireland. It provides news, papers, reports, legislation, research and parliamentary issues and will be useful various disciplines including Childhood Studies, Social Work and Early Years Education.

Academic Search Premier is a large multidisciplinary database offering a wide range of full text peer reviewed journal articles, indexes and abstracts. This scholarly resource provides information in nearly every area of academic study including: computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies, and many more.

Science Direct Journals

Science Direct is a resource that offers full text Journal articles for subjects, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and also Humanities.

Springer Journals

Springer Journals are accessed through the resource SpringerLink which is an integrated full-text multidisciplinary database for journals and books published by Springer. This resource is of particular use to Business and Social Science related disciplines.

Swetswise Journals

Swetswise Journals are a large collection of multidisciplinary Journals from a variety of publishers. This resource is useful for researchers from a number of disciplines including Business, Sport, Social & Physiological Sciences and Natural, Geographical & Applied Sciences. 

Taylor and Francis Journals

Taylor & Francis Journals are a collection of multidisciplinary journals covering subjects from Arts, Humanities, Computer Sciences, Social Sciences, Geography, Sports and many more.

Wiley Online Library is a multidisciplinary resource that covers the full spectrum of science, medicine, technology, business, social sciences, and the humanities.

Social Care Online
This online resource gives access to the UK's most complete range of information and research on all aspects of social care. This resource will benefit students studying any area of social care or social work. With new content added daily by SCIE's experienced information professionals, you can find information about all aspects of social care, from fostering, to mental health, to human resources and much, much more. Content is drawn from a range of resources including journal articles, websites, research reviews, legislation and government documents, and service user knowledge.

Meet the Learning Services Social and Psychological Sciences Team

Our aim, in collaboration with academic colleagues, is to support students studying Social and Psychological Sciences.

We are based in the top floor office of the University Library at Ormskirk.

We provide inductions, information literacy workshops, and 1-to-1 support.  We help you to get the most from the resources and services we provide. We work in partnership with academic colleagues to develop group sessions to help you maximise the resources available to support your studies.
