Conditions of Employment
Your contract of employment will identify the terms and conditions of employment specific to the role.
Interview Expenses
Re-imbursement of travel expenses will normally be paid in accordance with further details provided to shortlisted candidates.
Relocation
Re-imbursement of approved removal/relocation expenses may be payable in certain circumstances. For details on the scheme and how to apply, see our Relocation Assistance Policy (doc)
Appointments
Appointments are subject to satisfactory medical clearance, receipt of a minimum of two satisfactory references to cover your employment over the past 3 year period, verification of qualifications relating to the person specification and an enhanced disclosure with the Criminal Records Bureau (where appropriate).
In accordance with the requirements of the British Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, the offer of appointment is subject to the production of a valid UK Birth Certificate or passport and an official document confirming your National Insurance Number.
Probationary Period
Confirmation of employment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a 12 month probationary period
Salary
Salary is paid on the last working day of each month by credit transfer to a bank account or building society of the employee's choice.
The starting point on all grades is determined by the grade for the role. Increments within a grade are awarded on the 1st August each year, assuming satisfactory service (in line with the policy on progression).
Pension Scheme
Staff in Academic roles are eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS), whilst all other staff are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), details of which will be provided separately.
Existing members of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) who wish to continue to contribute to this scheme through Edge Hill, can obtain further details on this from Human Resources.
Annual Leave
The University’s holidays run from 1st September – 31st August.
The following annual leave entitlements are based on a full time equivalent contract and for part-time staff holidays will therefore be calculated pro rata.

Staff are also entitled to 13 statutory, extra-statutory and concessionary holidays.

Staff employed on term-time only contracts are expected to take leave outside the contracted working weeks and will receive additional pay in lieu of annual and statutory leave. The calculation will also be based on an entitlement to 13 statutory, extra-statutory and concessionary holidays.
Performance Review & Development
Performance Reviews enable the development and progression of all staff. It is therefore a contractual requirement that Performance Reviews are completed on an annual basis.
Patents/Copyright/Inventions
The provisions of sections 39, 40, 41, 42 and 43 of the Patents Act 1977 relating to the ownership of employees’ inventions and the compensation of employees for certain inventions are acknowledged by Edge Hill University and by the employee.
Notice Periods
The notice period that Edge Hill University is required to give in order to terminate an appointment, is subject to the minimum requirements of the Employment Rights Act 1996.
The notice period that staff are required to give is dependent upon the grade of the post.

No Smoking Policy
Edge Hill University operates a no smoking policy with smoking permitted only in certain areas. Further details may be obtained from Human Resources.
Medical Examination
All appointments to are subject to satisfactory medical clearance. University can require an employee to undertake a medical examination at any time during employment.
CRB Disclosure
Criminal Records Bureau enhanced disclosures are required for certain roles at the University; further details are provided in the job description.
Maternity / Paternity / Adoption Leave
This is a statutory right with entitlements to length of leave and pay being in accordance with length of service. Further details are available from Human Resources.
Sickness
The entitlement to receive sick pay is provided in accordance with length of service and is subject to compliance with Edge Hill University rules for notification and verification of sickness absence as set out in the Health Policy:
