Entry requirements

Academic requirements

Undergraduate courses

For undergraduate/bachelor degree programmes, students with a qualification equivalent to a British school-leaving qualification (A-level) can be considered for direct entry on to the first year of a three or four-year course. If you are from a country where qualifications are not at this level then you may be required to undertake our International Foundation Programme.

Undergraduate transfer

Studies you have already undertaken in another country or in the UK may be considered for “credit exemption”. If so, an equivalent of 120 credits will be awarded for the equivalent of the first year, which will then require you to complete a further 120 (one academic year) or 240 credits (two academic years).

Postgraduate courses

To gain entry on to a postgraduate certificate, diploma or masters course, you need a Bachelors degree, normally with the equivalent of first or second-class honours in a relevant subject of equivalent standard to the UK Bachelors degree. If you are aged 25 or over and don’t have this qualification but do have three or more years’ work experience, then you may be considered for entry to one of our masters courses.

Postgraduate research

To apply for postgraduate research (PhD), you are expected to have an upper second-class honours Bachelors degree or equivalent and, in some cases, to have completed a Masters course. You must submit a research proposal and are advised to contact the relevant Faculty in advance to discuss your ideas in more detail.
