What is a Needs Assessment?

When you have received confirmation of eligibility for the Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) from your funding body an appointment should be made for a Needs Assessment.

Your Needs Assessment will last 1-2 hours and takes the form of a 1:1 interview with a qualified assessor who will discuss your support requirements and make a series of recommendations relating to:

  • Specialist equipment
  • Learner support
  • Examination arrangements
  • Other issues related to your support requirements

How do I book my Needs Assessment?

Once you have confirmation from the funding body you can arrange your Needs Assessment from a list of assessors that your funding body will provide. Please keep the Team informed and contact us if you have any queries.

What happens next?

Following your Needs Assessment you will receive a draft Study Aid and Study Strategies Report, a copy of which will be sent to your funding body for approval. At this stage it is useful to contact the Team to ensure that all your requirements have been met. We also strongly encourage you to discuss the recommendations with your personal tutor and/or programme leader. Once approved, information will be passed to your academic department.
