About the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre
Edge Hill University’s Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre (CSSC) provides clinical skills and simulation training for the Faculty of Health and Social Care’s students as well as professional development opportunities for qualified professionals.
Based at both the University’s Ormskirk and Manchester campuses, the Centre looks and feels just like a real hospital ward and can be easily adapted to recreate other environments, such as an operating theatre, the back of an ambulance or the home.
The Centre offers high-quality training facilities within a realistic but risk-free environment. It contains industry standard simulation equipment, including a ‘family’ of mannequins, which can breathe, sweat, choke, tremble and cry out just like real-life patients, all controlled by tutors and facilitators via computer.
The Centre is available for external organisations to hire and is an excellent location for staff training. There are four dedicated multipurpose skills and simulation rooms which can be configured to meet a variety of needs. For further information on hiring the facilities, call David Cobb on 01695 650 773 or email cobbd@edgehill.ac.uk
The Faculty’s extensive portfolio of health and social care professional development study days are also taught in the Centre by an experienced team of lecturers.
Our Vision is….
“to develop a centre of excellence to provide the teaching and learning of skills within a safe environment to enable students to develop and maintain competence in all aspects of clinical skills. In line with the Faculty’s strategies for teaching, learning assessment and research, the Centre will develop research in practice learning, skills acquisition and simulation.”
