STOP PRESS: Edge Hill University is pleased to announce that it will not be increasing its fees for health and social care CPD courses for the next academic year (2012/13). The move is part of Edge Hill’s commitment to support professionals in their quest to increase their skills and improve the care they give to patients. It will also allow Edge Hill’s existing students to continue with their studies without fear of affordability.
Our postgraduate CPD programmes are usually for learners with existing higher education qualifications who want to study a specific subject at a higher level or gain a higher qualification to help them progress in their career.
Postgraduate Certificates
A postgraduate certificate of higher education (PG Cert) is a level 7 academic qualification requiring 60 credits. They are usually studied full-time over one year or part-time over two years. Further study could include a postgraduate diploma of higher education or a masters degree.

Masters Degrees
A masters degree is a course of academic study leading to a level 7 qualification such as a master of arts (MA), master of science (MSc) or master of surgery (MCh). You will need to earn 180 credits at level 7 to achieve a masters degree and they are normally studied full-time over one year or part-time over two years. Usually incorporating both taught sessions and research, they are designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of a subject and to assist you in progressing your career.

Research
We offer two research degrees, the MPhil and PhD. These qualifications are awarded to students who have completed individual programmes of research and written a thesis reporting the results of that research.
Length of Study
The timeframes given above are for guidance only. Our CPD programmes are flexible and tailored towards health professionals studying whilst in employment and therefore they can be completed in a timeframe that suits you up to a maximum of six years. Individual course leaders can advise applicants of an appropriate timeframe for your circumstances.
Individual Modules of Study
Programmes are made up of individual modules and our wide range of CPD modules can be studied individually. Many modules start in September and February meaning that if you miss the September intake you do not always need to wait a year to begin studying. Following completion, you can continue your studies with other modules and work towards an award. View our range of stand alone CPD modules.
NHS North West-Funded Modules (CPD Apply)
NHS North West funds Post-Qualification Learning for professional health and social care staff under their remit. Post-Qualification Learning follows a modular structure and modules can be studied on a stand alone basis or towards a post qualification award. Staff should contact their Trust Lead to discuss availability and for details of the online CPD Apply NW application system. Please contact your line manager or HR Department for details of your Trust Lead.
