Sport, Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Conference

Edge Hill University is pleased to announce this stimulating one-day conference on exploring the relationships between sports participation and brain injury.

Organised by Neurosupport and Edge Hill University in collaboration with Headway, the Greenbank Project and the Walton Centre for Neurology & the Neurosurgery NHS Trust, the conference will focus on:

  • Brain Injury caused during sports participation;
  • How the risk of injury can be minimised or averted;
  • The key role of sport and exercise in the recovery phase.

Background

Brain Injury caused by taking part in sport, at whatever level, is not uncommon. The consequences for survivors are often severe and can include physical, cognitive and behavioural impairment. Effective rehabilitation is the key to optimum recovery and sport and exercise can play a significant part in this.

The conference starts at 8:45am with registration and coffee, with tea and close at 4:30pm.

Cost

The cost of the Conference including lunch, refreshments and delegate pack is £100 (£75 if application is received by 20 December, 2008). Concessionary places (for patients and carers) cost £25. There are a limited number of free places for EHU health and sports students.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts are invited for poster presentations on the conferences main themes: Brain Injury, Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation. Presentations should relate to any innovations, developments or research within these fields. There will be a prize of £100 (kindly donated by Elsevier) for the best poster. Posters will be judged on the clarity of purpose, quality of content, and impact of the design.

Abstract Guidelines

  • Abstracts are to be submitted by email to sportsinjury2009@edgehill.ac.uk.
  • Deadline for abstracts is Friday 9th January 2009.
  • The abstract should not be more than 300 words in length.
  • Include full references as appropriate, using Harvard referencing style.
  • State clearly the names, job title and institutions of all authors and contact details of the main correspondent.

If your paper is accepted, you must register for the conference as a delegate. You will be expected to be available to talk to delegates about your poster during the viewing session.

Exhibition Stands

A limited number of places are available for exhibition stands. Charities and professional commercial organisations should contact the organisers if they would like a presence.

Rates (inclusive of one delegate place) are £125 for registered charities and £175 for others. (Additional delegates, standard delegate rate applies).
