Why Study History?

In a rapidly changing society, history has perhaps never been so relevant, allowing you to explore a varied and exciting choice of modules which will help develop transferable core skills highly valued by employers.

History is a distinctive subject, combining a sense of the past with understanding of the present, increasing awareness of different values and cultures and enhancing qualities of perception and judgement.

What periods of history can I study on the degree?

The focus of the degree is modern history since 1750, from the Russian revolution to the black civil rights movement in America, from 1930s Britain to the history of interpersonal violence. What transferable skills will I develop for my future career?

History develops ideas-oriented, independent individuals, able to analyse information and present conclusions in a clear, objective manner.

When you leave Edge Hill, you will have developed interpersonal and other skills such as data acquisition and presentation, effective communication, independent research and teamwork; all excellent preparation for a diverse range of careers.
