Teachers

Thank you for your interest in the professional development opportunities we offer and taking the time to browse our web site.

You will know from your own experience that to be effective in your role it is essential to keep yourself abreast of developments in learning and teaching. To help teachers like you to do this we work in partnership with local authorities and other providers of professional development to offer you a very flexible model of professional development.

By engaging with the university through this network you can plot and agree an individualised route to an MA Education through a carefully blended mix of learning experiences from taught and online modules to the increasingly important work we do with teachers in school to accredit ‘naturally occurring evidence’ based on what they are doing in their classroom.

In addition to the MA Education, we also offer a Mathematics Specialist Teachers Programme (MAST) and Postgraduate Certificate in Specialist Dyslexia Training.

MA Education

The MA Education is aimed at teachers, lecturers and educational practitioners who lead and support learning in a wide variety of educational settings. This innovative programme has the provision of exceptional education as its key aim. It is fully focused on the impact of outstanding practice on the outcomes and achievements of learners. The MA provides a structure for professional development and a means of evaluating and successfully improving current 'best' practice which informs and drives outstanding 'next' practice.

Designed to instil an ethos of lifelong learning in those involved in leading and supporting education, the programme will equip you with skills, knowledge and understanding to evaluate existing practice, develop practice and immerse yourself in enquiry-based research.

Mathematics Specialist Teacher Programme (MaST)

The Mathematics Specialist Teacher (MaST) Programme is designed to help teachers become "champions of mathematics" who will work to change attitudes towards the subject, making it more accessible and relevant to children.

Following the positive impact which Mathematics Specialist Teachers are already having in schools, the government has demonstrated its commitment to the programme by partially funding schools and teachers into 2013. Edge Hill University are delighted to continue to offer this innovative and exciting programme.

Any primary school teacher can undertake the programme. You don't need to have a mathematics background, just an enthusiasm to develop the skills necessary to become an ambassador for mathematics, and the commitment of a school to ensuring that changes in the way maths is taught become an integral part of the school improvement plan.

Going Further with Google SketchUp using Adobe Photoshop

Wednesday 1st February 2012, 4:30pm-6:30pm

Google SketchUp is widely used by many D&T teachers as an easy and cost free way of introducing 3D modeling at both KS3 and KS4. This short course will be of value to teachers who wish to develop their knowledge of how to render 2D and 3D images developed in Google SketchUp using Adobe Photoshop.

We are delighted to have local D&T teacher, Lee Peachey delivering this course.  Before entering teaching, Lee trained as an Architect during which time he gained considerable experience in using Google SketchUp and Adobe Photoshop. He took this experience into his teaching of Design and Technology and has successfully introduced SketchUp to classes at KS3 through to ‘A’ level Product Design.  In addition to demonstrating the basic skills in the use of this software, Lee will showcase examples of both his own work and those completed by pupils to illustrate the potential of this software.

CAD Software Training - Creo Elements/Pro

Wednesday 7th, 14th March & 16th & 23rd May, 4:30pm-6:30pm

Edge Hill University is pleased to be able to offer accreditation training in the new release of Creo Elements (formerly Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0). This 3D solid modelling package incorporates powerful CAD capabilities, recognised by design and engineering industries worldwide. Introducing the software to your school will provide your students with an opportunity to join the largest international community of users of any 3D CAD system.

Participants on the course will receive face to face tuition from experienced trainers and will be supported by comprehensive self paced tutorials. The course will not only cover the skills to use the software but will look at ‘Creo in the classroom’ with examples of pupils work using this software. A free, single user version of the software will also be given to participants to enable them to practice between training sessions.
