Mathematics & ICT
The Mathematics and ICT Department at Edge Hill University is part of the Faculty of Education and much of our work involves working with trainee teachers and support for practising teachers. The Mathematics and ICT Department is proud of its record in maintaining quality and improvement in its provision whilst being responsive to national developments.
The Department is particularly interested in addressing the national shortage of teachers in mathematical sciences and ICT. We are therefore able to support trainee teachers from a wide variety of subject knowledge backgrounds to begin a career in teaching (SKE link), with many of them progressing quickly in the profession due to their creativity and ability to use resources to plan innovative lessons.
Our tutors are very knowledgeable and we have strong links both nationally and locally to the wider subject communities and their professional bodies. Their expertise is widely recognised and several are published authors. We are also engaged in a number of innovative projects, mathematics trainees are involved in planning and delivering Royal Institution Masterclasses (link), some are involved in supporting the Edge Hill Challenge a national mathematics competition for schools run from my Department (link), ICT trainees are involved in an innovative creativity project. Please contact us for further information or come and meet us at one of our many open events.
