Humanities
Hello and welcome to the Humanities Department, the largest of the five academic departments within the Faculty of Education at Edge Hill University. We hope that you will enjoy reading about our work, our staff and our trainees.
Covering English, Geography, History, Modern Foreign Languages, Music and Religious Education, the scope of the department’s work is from undergraduate level subject study and subject study application on Primary and Key Stage 2/3 ITT programmes, through Secondary Professional Graduate and Post-Graduate levels, to Professional Development courses at both Foundation Degree and Masters level for the whole school workforce.
The Humanities Departmental team is highly experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic. All members of the department are closely involved in regional and national developments and initiatives within their specialist areas. Research and advanced scholarship underpins much of the teaching within the department, which means that trainees and students are at the cutting edge of new directions and developments in the teaching of their own particular subjects.
Support for individual trainees is important to us. The student voice forms a major part of our quality assurance procedures, and we value the feedback that we receive on all aspects of our courses. Every trainee has a personal tutor in order to provide the pastoral and academic support that is needed. It’s this kind of attention to detail, together with our superb teaching reputation, which has been recognised by external examiners, by OfSTED and, most importantly, by our own students.
