Edgeways Issue 13

Welcome

Roisin2005 holds many exciting challenges for Edge Hill. As part of our bid for taught degree awarding powers and for university status we are currently undergoing a period of scrutiny by the Quality Assurance Agency. Read on to find out what part the Quality Unit plays in ensuring that Edge Hill’s standards remain high. And as we look forward to a possible new era, we also look back at a few major developments – the opening of two new buildings on our Western Campus, the Centre for Media, Information Systems and Technology (CMIST) and the Faculty of Education.

Elsewhere you’ll find out how critically acclaimed TV and film writer Jimmy McGovern went from Brookside to Bogside as Edgeways gleaned an insight into what inspires one of the UK’s most controversial dramatists.

‘Is Scouse getting Scouser?’ is the question posed by Edge Hill PhD student and lecturer in linguistics Kevin Watson, read on to find out why Cilla, Tarby and many others are keen to keep their scouse accents.

A visit from the Guardian’s veteran film critic Derek Malcolm, a look at Listening to the Birth of Crystals poetry anthology in aid of the deaf and an international angle on study at Edge Hill from Bermudian student Chris Conway, plus much more, makes up this latest edition of Edgeways.

Don’t forget, if you have a story for the team here at Edgeways do get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
