Inclusive Service

Edge Hill Sport is committed to offering a fully inclusive service which provides an equal opportunity for all and does not discriminate on the grounds of age, sex, race, religion, ability or disability.

The Sporting Edge facility has been awarded the prestigious Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) Mark accreditation. The IFI is a Sport England funded scheme run by the English Federation of Disability Sport which works with fitness facilities to support them to become accessible to disabled and non-disabled people alike. The IFI Mark indicates that the whole service that a facility offers has been adapted for the needs of the disabled.

The following improvements have been made to the Sporting Edge facilities to make its service more accessible:

  • The creation of additional disabled parking spaces close to the building.
  • The refurbishment of the disabled toilets and changing areas in Changing rooms 1 and 2, and a refurbishment of the unisex disabled toilet on the ground floor.
  • A new visual emergency alarm system with alarms that will flash when activated
  • Improved lighting around the building, especially in the Fitness Suite and down both corridors
  • Improved directional signage throughout the building and tactile door signage in all changing rooms.
  • New IFI accredited fitness equipment supplied by Life Fitness and Pulse Fitness that includes all the features necessary to aid a disabled user. There are two Sci-Fit machines that are especially useful for wheelchair users.
  • Staff at all levels have undergone specific training to help assist and communicate with disabled users to ensure they receive the best possible service.
  • The Fitness team have undergone additional training in adapting exercise for disabled customers.
  • Hearing Induction loops are available at Reception and in the Fitness Suite, including a personal induction loop for one-to-one work with a Fitness Instructor.
  • Marketing information can be produced in various formats to assist those with a range of impairments, such as large print, audio and Braille.
  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans ( PEEPs ) are available to assist customers in the event of an emergency evacuation from the building. Please ask at Reception for more details.
  • Closer links with existing local disabled groups are being made to encourage them to use the centre.
  • Updated operating policies to ensure that the service we offer remains at the highest level.
