Our Mission Statement
The Centre for Local Policy Studies was established in 1993 in order to provide a framework for the development of research and consultancy work. The Centre was established as a cross-college initiative to reflect the multi-disciplinary character of the field of activity. A set of aims and objectives were adopted which were later translated into a mission statement.
Our Mission
The Centre for Local Policy Studies has been established at Edge Hill University to provide a focus for work on local governance and community development. Within this framework we are concerned with all aspects of policy, organisation and management at the local and sub-national level as they occur in Britain, Europe and inter-nationally. In addition to local policy and theory, the Centre has a concern with those aspects of national policy-making which impact on local and regional structures.
The Centre will pursue critical research and provide a range of research and consultancy services to organisations involved in local policy development and community development. In this role, the Centre provides an alternative to the large market research companies and our knowledge and experience means we are attuned to local government, voluntary sector and community work.
The development of knowledge and understanding about the changing context of local governance will be paramount and the Centre will work towards the creation of links between academic work and practitioners through the promotion of education, training, conferences and publication.
