About Us

Established in 1993, the Centre for Local Policy Studies is a team of professionals with a strong track record of providing support and innovative solutions for the public and voluntary sectors in areas of management, strategy and policy development, community engagement, regeneration and equality. We are skilled at developing programmes to meet the specific requirements of commissioning agencies.

Our recently expanded consultancy team can offer a broad range of consultancy, training, policy development and management services.  We can provide cost effective solutions for short or longer term projects, supplying time and expertise that may not be available to you in-house.  Our work on the Equality Standard for Local Government requires the design and delivery of tailored training for local government agencies. We are currently undertaking assessment for a number of authorities throughout the country.

During 2003/04, we organised a three-day national conference on Mainstreaming Equality, which was preceded by two separate research days for practitioners, policy makers and active researchers. We have disseminated findings of the ESRC-funded, multi-institutional SEQUAL project via a range of workshops in the North West in Autumn 2005.

Annually, we jointly organise a conference for the Research Management Network; the 2009 event will take place at Lancaster University in June. Also planned for 2009 is a Summer School about Equality and Developing Strategy: "Reshaping Multiculturalism: identity and equality". Details can be found on the Events and Conferences page.

Our work with the voluntary and community sector has involved the organisation and delivery of specific training and facilitation of "away days" for agencies and partnerships.
Our post-graduate modules on Managing Partnerships, Managing Equalities and Managing Project Management and Evaluation can also be delivered as stand-alone short courses.
