Academic Interests
Vicky is presently engaged in a longitudinal study which follows basic skills learners’ progression routes as part of her doctoral research. She has an interest in participatory/ethnographic research and the use of photography and other visual data as an ethnographic research tool. From a teacher education and strong basic skills practitioner background she is keen to establish and maintain strong and productive links between practice and research.
As a community activist, feminist and educator she is passionate about the empowering and transforming nature of education. She has carried out research in work based learning, community and FE college settings. The research has led to the forging and sustaining of productive and liberating links on a local, national and international level. She is a member of ‘Write About... avoluntary initiative established to promote writing, by ordinary people, about social issues which have impacted on their lives, and to publish collections of the most inspiring writing as Easy-Readers to help teenagers and adults in basic skills education come to terms with their own experiences and to overcome their personal barriers to education.
