Stuart Maconie is one of our best known and celebrated alumni. Furthermore he was awarded an Honorary MA from EHU in December 2009 for his career in writing, presenting and for promoting the North West region. He will be best known for his BBC Radio 2 evening show which he co hosts with Mark Radcliffe and frequently appears on documentaries on TV. In fact, anyone watching Celebrity Mastermind in December 2009 will have seen Stuart obtain the highest score ever on the show, clearly demonstrating that his time at Edge Hill as an English undergraduate was not wasted!. He has also written a series of books entitled "Cider with Roadies", "Pies and Prejudice" (in search of the North) and "Adventures on the High Teas" and is in the process of researching for another due out later this year. He very kindly took time out to visit Edge Hill Careers in February 2010 and agreed to record this interview with Debby our Media Careers Adviser about his career to date. Anyone planning to get a foot in the door in the media sector will welcome Stuart's advice and be inspired by what he has to say. He also talks about "MediaCity," the forthcoming major development in media history at Salford Quays and shares his advice on how to get ahead of the game and apply for jobs there.

Training contracts are not easy to come by - you need to work for them. Expect to have to gain relevant experience in legal work such as working as a paralegal
