The Careers Centre has developed excellent relationships with many employers. Each year we welcome over 150 employers on to campus. Have a look at these pages to see how your company can get involved.
What We can Offer You
The Careers Centre offers a range of FREE services to employers. We can:
- Advertise graduate vacancies via our Free Service
- Host your recruitment activities, for example, presentations and interviews
- Raise your organisation’s profile with the student and staff population
- Give you the opportunity to meet and talk with Edge Hill University students
- Match your needs to those of students seeking work experience projects and placements
- Offer the expertise of our academic departments to assist with research and development
Other Careers Centre Services
Job Club
The Careers Centre Job Club, runs a FREE recruitment service for employers recruiting for staff and students for part-time work.
Part-time, temporary, summer jobs, or work placement vacancies can be advertised via the website and through targeted e-mails, free of charge.
Employers using our Job Club have the opportunity to nominate students for the prestigious Student Employee of the Year Award. The most recent Winner “displayed an excellent ability to understand, and work to, our specific requirements as well as demonstrating creativity” WiFi Solutions.

Work Placements and Projects
We advertise, in conjunction with the Faculties, opportunities for students to undertake paid and voluntary bespoke projects for employers. Previous work has included: website design, marketing, PR, DVD production, accountancy, legal services and support for local community initiatives.
Developing your Future Workforce

How to place an advert
The Careers Service provides a free advertising service for a wide range of vacancies suitable for new and recent graduates and for students. Vacancies are released onto our fully searchable website throughout each working day. Whether it is a graduate position, placement/internship or a part-time/vacation job that you wish to advertise to our students, our Careers Centre staff will be happy to talk you through the process

Higher Education Careers Services in the North West Graduate Vacancies Partnership enables you to promote vacancies located in the North West to students across the North West faster and more efficiently. Our 'one-stop-shop' currently involves the universities of Bolton, Chester, Cumbria, Edge Hill, Glyndwr, Liverpool, Liverpool Hope, MMU, UCLAN (more will follow soon) and you can choose to advertise only at Edge Hill or at all of these. The rest of the work will be done for you.
Part-time/vacation jobs or Placements/Internships
We are often the first point of contact for employers wishing to advertise a wide range of part time jobs and work experience vacancies for students. We recognise the benefits of good work experience and we aim to help employers to advertise appropriate opportunities to our students.
During term time we recommend that are students are do not work in excess of 15 hours per week.

Edge Hill University Careers Centre works with employers in a variety of ways. Here are some examples of who we work with and how you could work with us.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car
From 2004 to 2009 ERAC supported the Careers Centre through their involvement with the Outlook Programme – Merseyside Diversity Mentoring – a collaborative project with Liverpool University and Liverpool Hope. This project won numerous awards including an AGCAS Diversity Award in 2006. ERAC supported the project by offering members of their staff as mentors to students across the 3 universities and by running workshops on our premises e.g. on presentations, assessment centres etc.
The new Edge Hill Employability Programme endorsed by the Institute of Leadership & Management was piloted in 2009- 2010 and supported by ERAC who were involved in the original planning and consultation for this new award.
Their involvement has ensured that the programme allows students to develop the skills most highly valued by graduate recruiters. By delivering workshops on topics such as presentation skills and mock assessment centres, ERAC are giving students a much valued insight into the graduate recruitment process. Additionally, ERAC’s involvement on the final assessment panel provides students with a unique opportunity to gain feedback from graduate recruiters prior to completing their university study.
HMP Preston
HMP Preston have offered wonderful support over the last 3 years including playing an important role at our Social and Psychological Sciences Careers Days. Students regularly reported back on how good their sessions were - so good that one year they had to repeat their session in the afternoon. Preston Prison attend our Faculty of Arts and Sciences Careers Fairs and Health and Social Care Fairs. In addition to this Preston Prison offer volunteering opportunities to students interested in working with offenders.
NSG Pilkington
Despite the current recession and suspension in graduate recruitment activity - NSG have continued to come into university over the past 2 years offering advice, support and encouragement to our students with regard to applying for graduate posts. NSG Pilkington have attended careers fairs and provided inputs to our IT students.
St. Helens Sports Development
For many years St Helens Sports Development have been supporting the Careers Centre and Sports department by providing a wide range of volunteering opportunities, attending careers events, and giving guidance to students via one to one advice.
Adventor
Adventor have been a supporter of our Job Club from its earliest days - offering some of the first opportunities we had for our students to take part in national events such as the Grand National at Aintree. Every year Edge Hill students act as stewards at the event and the feedback we receive from the students is always really positive. Adventor have take part in other regular careers events such as careers fairs.
Compass
Compass have offered numerous and varied opportunities to Edge Hill students in the last few years by offering work at local football clubs, including Liverpool FC, The Grand National and international sporting events Over the years our students have highly recommended Compass as an employer.
Gardline Marine Sciences
Gardline Marine Sciences are based in Great Yarmouth and recruit graduates each year for their opportunities in both the UK and abroad. As part of Gardline Enterprises, Gardline Marine Sciences employ people in geo survey, geo sciences, environmental, oceanography, hydrometrics and in geological roles. The company are consistently involved in community ventures sponsoring environmental projects such as beach cleaning.
Since 2008, the company has been a great supporter of the university Careers Centre. By providing information and advice for our resources, and constructive feedback during quality assessments, they have been a committed, enthusiastic and much valued employer. Their involvement have included presentations to Geography students about graduate job recruitment and selection together with participation in a short DVD on preparation for graduate job applications for adding to the Careers Centre & Geography websites.
The Co-operative Group
The Co-operative Group, based in Manchester, have been supporting students in the faculty of Arts & Sciences since 2005 when they first provided workshops for a range of students across the faculty as part of our diversity mentoring programme. Over the next four years they delivered workshops focusing on key employability skills including presentation skills, networking and the graduate recruitment process. Staff also provided face to face mentoring support to 2nd and third year students at Edge Hill.
Since then they have continued to provide support, in particular to Business School, where they have become an integral part of the personal and professional development programme for first year students.
Silverbeck Rymer
Silverbeck Rymer are a specialist legal firm based in Liverpool and have been working with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences since 2005 . They first worked with the university through the diversity mentoring programme and their Head of HR was also a member of the steering group for that programme and provided invaluable guidance to the group which led to it receiving a national award.
Since then Silverbeck Rymer have been supporting our law students. Last year they provided placements to 4 of our Year 3 law students. This year they are supporting our new employability law module for Year 2 Law students and are also offering placement opportunities over the summer for our students.
Enterprise (Garston)
Enterprise (Garston) was nominated for an Employer Award by one of our students who works for them on a part time basis. Enterprise has offered her outstanding support enabling her to successfully combine her studies whilst continuing to work. The skills she has learnt, such as managing people, planning ahead and problem solving, will enable her to develop her employability and potential in the job market when she graduates.
Domino's Pizza (St Helens)
Edge Hill University's Job Club has assisted local branches of Domino's Pizza with their recruitment needs over the years. The St Helens store recently received an Employer Award from the University for the outstanding support they offer Edge Hill students by providing opportunities and training to increase work skills. Students commented that they felt valued as employees and their needs as students are understood.
